For the last few weeks and especially these last couple of days, Crystal and I have been spending a lot of time at our studio working on photo shoots and our post processing. A couple of weeks ago, Crystal and I were able to get ourselves a pretty nice office space in Virginia Beach where we’re able to set up our studio. Since then, we’ve pretty much been ‘living’ there every day and all weekend working harder than ever! It’s a really greate place to have an office space that can be used into a studio.
A Fun and Long Evening…
Just last night, Crystal and I had a excellent time working on a photo shoot with our clients Alysha and Mikeal that lasted for about 2 hours, we were having so much fun we simply had forgotten about time! The shoot started around 7 and ended just a little after 9 PM when Alysha and Mikeal finished selecting the photos they liked.
Soon afterwads, Crystal and I grabbed some Taco Bell to soothe our munchies and drove our selves back to the studio around 10 PM. We were only thinking about working on some teaser photos and then heading home to call it a night, but have decided to just go ahead and finish editing the 29 photos that were selected and posting them for Alysha and Mikeal to see.
10 PM to just about 2:30 AM the following morning, Crystal and I were able to complete their 29 photos that were retouched, enhanced, and posted on 2 social networking websites (Myspace/Facebook) and at the same time built a custom proofing page on our GamboaPhotos.com website where they can download the branded proofs.
Did I mention that right before the photo shoot, we worked an 8-hour shift at my day job
?
Our Dedication
Last night’s shoot was definitely a Very Fast Turn Around Time for our clients. Normally we give ourselves 2-3 weeks to complete the project and only give a few teasers out, but since the shoot turned out so great that we decided to go ahead and complete the project that night! It’s not the first time we’ve done this before, we’ve done a photo shoot that lasted till 3 AM with one of the models (Brian Fockler) we’ve worked with last Sunday! We’re definitely dedicated and very passionate with what we enjoy… photography
It was all worth it!
Hard work definitely pays off! When we first started out with our photography last year in October 2007, we never expected that 8 months later to be in an office space setting up a studio. But when opportunity knocks on the door, we’re both quick to jump and get at it! Although there are days where we’re tired from sleepless nights or near towards being broke, we never give up on our photography! It was all worth it because without the hard work that we’ve been putting in it, investments, and all the things we’ve done to get to where we are, it has gotten us to this point.
Special thanks to those who keeps supporting us out there and our clients and models whom we had pleasure working with! Without your support we won’t be any where or be able to keep doing what we do!
In the end…
Hard work and dedication definitely is a MUST espcially starting a venture like this
This is just the beginning!
Most of the models we photograph are new to modeling and inexperienced. We also work with a lot of average people that just want to have a fun and memorable photo shoot. When the model arrives at the studio, he or she is usually nervous and is self-concious to the point that they usually over-think the pose and, in turn, produce bad photos.
Throughout the photo session we give out some direction for the pose we’re looking for and some tips for what can be fixed. There is one thing that you will hear us saying time and time again:
Raise your chin.
It’s a small piece of advice, but it is one of the simplest and more powerful things you could do to make your photos better. By raising your chin you remove the shadow that’s on your neck. You will also eliminate the appereance of double-chin and any wrinkles on your neck. It also makes you look for confident in yourself.
There are, of course, exceptions to this. If you’re going for a sexy look, perhaps try tilting your head to an angle.
Keep yourself looking natural but always try to remember to keep your chin up slightly. This one tip can help make, or break, the shot.
This is basically a ‘free’ photo session for models and photographers. TF stands for “Time For…”. There are two versions of the TF* session: Time for Print (TFP) in which you receive prints and Time for CD (TFCD) in which you receive a CD of images.
It’s a win-win situation for both: The model gets more time and experience in front of the camera and gets some free photos for their portfolio while the photographer gets to test out new equipment, get more samples for their portfolio, and try out new ideas that they normally wouldn’t dare try on a paid shoot.
When we first started out with our photography we would advertise for our TFCD sessions a few times a month. The experience we gained from those photo sessions was incredible. We learned a lot of things along the way and we discovered a lot of mistakes that we’ve since corrected.
Although I’ve referenced TFCD as a “free” session previously, it is more like an exchange. Rather than paying one or the other, a TFCD exchanges a model’s time for a photographer’s time which in the end negates monetary payment.
One thing many new models should keep in mind is that quality vs. quantity is best. When we do a TFCD session, or any session for that matter, we will only provide you with the best photos from the session. Models may wonder why we take hundreds of photos during the session and then are only provided the top 10-20 images but would you really want hundreds of subpar photos released on the internet? To us, a photographer that does not do quality-control on their released photos and gives the model a CD of all the images does not take enough pride in their work.
Another thing models should keep in mind in a TFP / TFCD is that not all TF* work is beneficial for your portfolio. Sometimes a model and photographer won’t have the same vision in mind so be sure to screen every photographer’s portfolio and make sure you have an understanding of the look you’re both going for. Time is valuable and it’s best not to waste it.
